Inter Milan’s Unbeaten Streak Ends in Empoli Loss
Inter Milan’s seven-match unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday after their 1-0 loss to Empoli. The San Siro side had been in good form since the start of 2019, amassing four wins and three draws before this week’s defeat.
The match was decided in the 82nd minute when Empoli midfielder Antonino La Gumina headed home from close range, making it a difficult evening for Inter manager Luciano Spalletti. The loss also ended Inter’s three-match winning streak in Serie A as they missed out on the chance of taking third spot in the league table.
The defeat marked an unfortunate end to a promising run for Inter that had seen them take points from some of Italy’s strongest sides. Over the past seven matches, Inter had earned victories over Lazio and Fiorentina, as well as a draw against champions Juventus.
The last time Inter went seven games unbeaten was back in October 2018 when they defeated Genoa and then drew with AC Milan. But subsequent defeats to both Roma and Sampdoria saw their streak come to an end at that time.
This time around, Inter’s streak was finally broken by Empoli after a resolute performance at the Carlo Castellani stadium. It was not a great day for Spalletti’s side who were unable to break through Empoli’s defense despite some good chances late on in the game.

The result will likely be disappointing for Inter supporters who saw their team make great progress during their recent run of form. However, with 18 matches remaining this season there is still plenty of time for them to get back on track and push for European qualification or even a top four finish if they can rediscover their form from earlier in 2019.
Adorned in their iconic navy blue and black striped Inter Milan jersey, supporters will have faith that their team can get back on course before too long as they look ahead to more challenging fixtures against Roma, Napoli and Atalanta later this month.
Any Inter fan will tell you that it’s not the result that matters, but how the team responds to adversity. The club and their manager now have a chance to prove their mettle and bounce back from this setback in style. As they look to get back on top of Serie A, Inter Milan can take some solace in knowing that they are still within touching distance of the Champions League places. With plenty of games left to play, only time will tell if they can once again put together an impressive run of form.

It is clear that Inter Milan have some work to do if they want to keep up with other teams vying for European qualification. Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri remain a force to be reckoned with and will look to get back on track as soon as possible. After this week’s defeat, Inter Milan look to take advantage of the remaining fixtures in 2019 in order to cement their place at the top of the Serie A table. All eyes will now be on Luciano Spalletti and his side as they try to pick themselves up and challenge for a spot amongst Italy’s elite clubs once again.
