Inter Overcome AC Milan to Claim Italian Super Cup Title

Internazionale brushed off AC Milan to secure their first Italian Super Cup victory in seven years on Wednesday night, with a 3-2 victory in Reggio Emilia. The match was an enthralling affair, and saw Romelu Lukaku score twice for Inter Milan, as well as an own goal from AC Milan’s Theo Hernández.

The match began brightly for AC Milan as Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the 28th minute after latching onto a beautifully weighted pass from Hakan Çalhanoğlu. However, Inter were able to level the scores before half time courtesy of a Romelu Lukaku header from an Antonio Candreva cross.

The second half started with a flurry of activity and it was Inter who took full advantage; Lukaku grabbed his second of the night with a low drive past Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 59th minute. Inter then doubled their lead four minutes later when Stefan de Vrij diverted a Danilo D’Ambrosio volley into the net following yet another perfectly placed Candreva cross.

AC Milan managed to pull one back midway through the second half when substitute Samu Castillejo found more space than expected in the penalty area and fired home an emphatic effort beyond keeper Handanović. However, it wasn’t enough for the Rossoneri, who failed to grab an equaliser despite introducing Lucas Paquetá and Krzysztof Piatek late on in search of extra firepower.

Inter Milan’s victory sparked emotional scenes at full time, with captain Samir Handanović proudly lifting aloft the trophy wearing his iconic Inter Milan jersey. It was certainly a night to remember for all involved with Nerazzurri, as they added another piece of silverware to their already impressive collection this season.

Their success this season has been built on strong defensive foundations and tactical finesse up front; both elements were very much on display in this fixture against their fierce rivals AC Milan. Perhaps most notably, star striker Romelu Lukaku has been sensational since joining from Manchester United last summer; he now has over 20 goals in all competitions this season for Inter – proving once again why he is considered one of Europe’s finest strikers today.

It was undoubtedly a big win for Internazionale, and a bitter pill to swallow for AC Milan; however both sides can take pride from their performances over two legs of Supercoppa Italiana 2020/21 battle – especially given how tight it had looked heading into Wednesday evening’s game at Stadio Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia. All things considered, Internazionale thoroughly deserved their victory over two legs; they have been arguably the strongest team in Italy this season and are now firmly set up to challenge Juventus atop Serie A come May 2021 when domestic football resumes after its winter break. With their first Italian Super Cup in seven years now in the bag, Internazionale will be hoping to maintain their impressive form until then. Either way, this was a match that won’t be forgotten for quite some time. Congrats Inter! FORZA INTER!!!!!!
